| A Letter to Namine |

Dearest Namine,
The pastry that you left me was delicious. I was pleasantly surprised to see it waiting for me, along with your letter. I'm glad you brought Black Cat and the other kittens inside. I would hate for something to happen to them. I hope to be able to visit them very soon. I should pick up some fresh tuna for Black Cat while I am out tomorrow.
I learned of your meeting with Sora probably not long after it happened. He is a charming young man, isn't he? I did not turn him down for the balls. I will simply attend the balls with both of them. I promised Riku the first one, but after that, it is Sora's choice. Did he actually say he wanted to marry me? What makes you sure that he thinks that? It is true that I am very fond of him, but I am unsure if it would be right to bring him into the world that we live in. It isn't exactly pleasant all of the time.
I'll tell you part of the secret here, but you musn't tell anyone at all. You are going to be attending a ball with me, Namine. It will only be a small event, but I know that you are not fond of large crowds, so our party will be no more than five or six people. I have a present for you in my room. Come by when you get a chance and I will let you have it. I think it will suit you wonderfully! Again, do not mention this to anyone besides Sora and myself. Do not show this letter to anyone at all.
Also, you should be more careful with what you say. I am afraid that someone might realize that you are the princess and try to take advantage of you. I could not live with myself if something happened, so please be careful.
Meet me in my room after midnight. There we will talk more.
Your Devoted Sister, Kairi

Dearest Namine,
Your penmanship is getting better by the day. I am so thrilled to see you making such great strides. Please pass my compliments on to the good Professor Watts when you next see him. As for stories, I do have a story to tell you about a mechanical horse that acts as if it were a real horse. I saw this with my own eyes, or else I might think that it was a fairytale.
I eagerly await seeing the painting. If it is from you, it must be absolutely breathtaking! You always use the best color combinations in your paintings. Honestly, you may become one of the world's greatest artist. I truly believe that you are destined for wonderful things, Namine. I am delighted to hear that you imagined something. How wonderful! It would indeed be a nice thing if Black Cat could speak human. Not only could we receive messages quicker, but she would be infinitely better company for you.
There is nothing quite so droll as courting. Boys come from all places to give you gifts and try to make you swoon with their shallow compliments and, as a lady, all you can do is smile and act as if you are amused by what they are saying. I think there must be something wrong with me, for I truly have no taste for it! I would rather be around people whose affections are genuine and not because they are from a power hungry estate.
It seems as if the help is saying some interesting things while I am not listening. I will tell them to try and keep their tongues from wagging so much. I will explain whatever you wish to know when we next see each other.
On another note, I have been asked to the Winter Balls by none other than Riku ShinRa himself. I promised him the first ball, but I do hope to go with Sora to at least one other. That is, if he finds the courage within himself to ask me.
There is something urgent that I must talk to you about when we see each other next. The subject is something I dare not write down on paper for fear of prying eyes seeing it. Until then, do say hello to Black Cat for me and give her a nice pat on the head. I will wait eagerly to see you.
Your Loving Sister, Kairi |
